Honduras is a major country in Central America. It has a large Caribbean Sea coastline (with several islands as well), and a much smaller Pacific Ocean coastline. On the land, it borders Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.
Similar to its neighbors like Guatemala, Honduras has had a significant influence from the ancient Maya Civilization. They now have a number of incredible archeological sites, like Copán.
Honduras is the second-largest Central American coastline by land area, and within its borders has numerous geographic and geologic features including a 9400-foot mountain. But Honduras is in many ways more well known for its holdings outside the traditional landmass. Specifically, the Bay Island chain, which includes tourism hotspots like Roatan and Utila.
Building a container home in Honduras will face the same challenges as any other type of building. The country still doesn't have a mature building code nationwide, and you'll have to deal with municipal regulations in your local area.
While we've seen evidence that Honduras is working to develop a national building code, to date, nothing has been formalized. Working with a local architect to ensure you have the correct local permits and administrative requirements met is the best way to proceed.
