Regulations for building in California are governed by the California Code of Regulations, Title 24, known as the California Building Standards Code. Local governments enforce these state-wide codes and can amend them as necessary for environmental conditions in their area. Additional oversight into related elements of building safety are provided by the California Department of Housing and Community Development.
