North Carolina is a bit unique in that it has a state-wide building code administered by the Office of State Fire Marshal with the Department of Insurance. As with other US states, they adopt a modified version of the ICC model codes. Local entities still enforce the building codes, but the requirements are uniform across the state between jurisdictions.
