El Tiemblo House

This fantastic shipping container home was built in an “L” shape design with four containers that envelopes a central courtyard. Located in El Tiemblo in the province of Ávila, Spain, this roughly 2,000 square-foot residence was completed in six months.

The home is made of two forms. The first is made of two containers that are placed side by side at ground level. The second elevates two additional side-by-side containers over a metal structure to create a second floor.

The forms are separated by the open-air staircase area. Underneath the second form is the living area and kitchen with huge windows out into the courtyard. The master suite is located on the second floor, along with a study room, bathroom, and balcony.

The visitor area is located on the ground floor of the second section of the “L.” The general design provides for separation between key sections and guest areas, resulting in enhanced privacy and greater control of energy usage.
