Maison Container Lille

Description

This single-family residence is situated within the countryside of Lille, France and composed of eight 40ft shipping containers stacked on top of each other. It rests on a reinforced concrete foundation.

The exterior of the container home is painted a vibrant cherry red, while the interior features bright white walls. The original steel doors of the containers were not removed purposely and may be opened or closed from the outside to protect the house from direct sunlight.

Both the ground floor and first floor have large glass bay windows that that are insulated with argon gas. Metal parts that were cut away from the containers were used to create furniture and decorative elements inside the house.

The ground floor includes a one-car garage, storage, kitchen, dining, and living area with an open floor layout with a contemporary industrial style. The interior is accented by red columns and metal finish work.

The two levels of the house are connected by a spiral, galvanized steel staircase. This staircase leads to a metal grate walkway on the first floor that provides access to the bedrooms, bathroom, and office. Upstairs, part of the floors was cut out to create double-height spaces for the ground floor level.

The roof of the house is a shade screen to let air flow around the roof and keep it from overheating. The overall look of this container home is a marriage of industrial finishes and modern interiors.

  1. I’m planning to build shipping container houses in Drulingen Alsace but I’m not sure I’ll obtain the building permit, the approval from the mayor .
I don’t want to go directly and ask incase I ‘m refused and then disappointed or some one else beat me to it !
    What to do ???

    1. We don’t have experience dealing with France’s subtleties, so it’s hard to give specific recommendations. But if approval from the mayor is ultimately needed, you’ll have to get that approval some way. It’s often best to try to find a lower-level official who you can speak with and who can hopefully advocate for you to the decision-makers.

  2. I am starting a project building an art center out of shipping containers, after much research found your website
