The old saying, "How long is a piece of string" can just as easily be modified to "How short is a short-term stay". But in general, most people agree that a short-term rental is a housing unit that is typically rented by the day or week. Often, these units are found on websites like Airbnb, HomeAway, etc.
This is in contrast to normal housing rentals which are instead rented for multiple months (or even years) real estate websites. In addition, short-term rentals often have a slightly reduced number of features and amenities.
For instance, a short-term rental may only have a small kitchen and minimal storage. After all, you aren't trying to store your whole life and cook meals for a whole family in one usually.
We've seen shipping containers successfully used for various types of short-term rentals numerous times over the years. They provide a way to have a freestanding housing unit that you can affordably place into your backyard, on a vacant plot of land, etc., and start creating income.
Note that we currently have additional container-based short-term rentals listed on our Visit Page, so check there as well while we work on merging these two tools together.
