An elegant, two-story container house perfectly set in a popular holiday location at Bukit Tinggi, Malaysia, northeast of Kuala Lumpur in the highlands. This home was built with six shipping containers sitting on a concrete pier foundation.
Two containers are used for a double-height atrium and large glass windows abound for natural daylight and cross-ventilation inside the house. The home also features two overlooking balconies that provide great places for a family to enjoy the mountain views.
A large shed roof help keeps minimizing the heat inside and also collects rainwater into a large tank, a great eco-friendly feature. To top it off, the home uses the collected rainwater along with treated greywater from the home in the garden.
This house is a great example of a container architecture in a tropical area, but one in a highland setting instead of an urban or beach location. And the eco-friendly design really highlights the owner’s commitment to low-impact living.
