This container house on a hill has a layout designed for the incredible ocean views it offers. The home is set on a hill near Jaco, Costa Rica, overlooking Playa Hermosa about two miles away.
The home starts with two parallel 40ft containers that have a gap between them, which provides a carport. One container has a bedroom and bathroom, while the other offers a staircase, utilities, and storage.
Upstairs, there are two additional 40ft containers set side by side and turned 90 degrees, resting on top of the below containers. These containers hold another bedroom and bathroom, along with the kitchen and living areas.
The second level opens up onto a 960 SF deck, resting on top of the carport and first-floor containers. This is the best space in the house, with ocean breezes and amazing 270-degree views.
Large steel beams are used to support a sloping roof that covers the entire footprint of the home including the deck. This keeps the intense sun and rainy season showers off of the deck, so it can be enjoyed throughout the year.
This container home design is relatively simple, but it really works well for a property with great scenery. By positioning the main deck on top of the bottom containers, you get the added elevation which helps capture more breezes and see over trees.
