Set in Victoria’s Inner Harbor on Vancouver Island, Red Fish Blue Fish is a seafood restaurant in a shipping container. It’s named after the children’s book One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss.
The restaurant is set out on the dock and is made of a single 20-foot shipping container. Not surprisingly given the size, you can’t dine-in. Instead, you can sit along the dock railing with an incredible view of the harbor.
Red Fish Blue Fish has an ec0-friendly vibe that permeates the dining experience. It starts with the repurposed, used shipping container that holds the kitchen. The seafood is locally caught and the waste is composted. On top of the container, a green roof helps with insulation and provides a sustainable feel.
The design of the container echos maritime life, with orders being placed and picked up via large, circular portholes cut into the container walls. The sidewall of the container (therefore, the front wall of the restaurant) has a blown-out wall area that gives a few extra square feet. But given the size, it’s a pretty simple container conversion.
The food itself has rave reviews, with options including traditional fish and chips, tacones, and even a well-known seafood chowder. Apparently, there’s often a sizeable line during busy times of the year! If you like the name but find yourself a few thousand miles southeast, you can check out the similarly named but unrelated Red Fish Blue Fish in Pensacola, Florida.
