This project consists of two separate shipping container buildings, each outfitted as a duplex. So in total, the property has four individual units.
The investor chose containers for their durability and lower maintenance costs (which reduces expenses and increases Net Operating Income), plus their eco-aesthetic which increases their popularity in the market. These container duplexes are fairly simple, with a bit of a raw and industrial look that may appeal to some while being a bit spartan for others.
You can quickly notice from the exterior pictures that each building is made of six total 40ft containers, three container placed side by side, on two levels. Except for the addition of small porches and staircases, the container buildings are otherwise flat in their elevation views. This made the construction more economical, with less structural reinforcement and other modifications to think about as you’d have with more creative placements using bridges and cantilevers.
Inside, the three 40 foot containers of each rental unit are subdivided into 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a large kitchen/living area. Higher-end touches were added like granite counters, industrial pipe shelving, and stainless steel appliances. With 960 square feet and three bedrooms, it’s still a cozy space that’s a better fit for those interested in minimizing their home size.
The pictures below are taken from multiple units on the property. While all the floorplans are the same, some of the colors and furnishings are different between units.
