Union Pier Container Home Two

Description

This hybrid container home is an architectural masterpiece. The home has even earned industry recognition by winning The Best of Show in Residential Design at the 2014 Design Excellence Awards from the Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers. A courtyard with an inground pool is the centerpiece of the compound, flanked by two buildings.

The main home has three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms, as well as tons of living areas including a screened room with a fireplace. High ceilings and an open, flowing floor plan make the space feel even bigger than it already is. And the interior design touches like the furniture, cabinetry, and light fixtures make it clear that this is a top-tier container home.

The two-story guest house has two bedrooms and two bathrooms and is made from containers as well. It is the only two-story building in the compound and has more of the normal container construction you would expect to see instead of the hybrid design of the main house.

Altogether, the various areas of the two buildings and the courtyard combine to form a first-class three-season indoor/outdoor home space. The interior spaces are both modern and warm, with a blend of materials including shipping containers, concrete, and wood. The exterior of the home has tons of wood to fit in well with the abundantly treed lot, yet subtle touches of metal to hint at what’s waiting for you inside.
