WineBox Valparaiso

WineBox Valparaiso is one of the coolest container hotels anywhere. By combining 25 shipping containers with bold colors, a unique stacking configuration, and an elevated lot, this beautiful hotel was able to push the limits of container architecture.

The hotel is a short five-minute walk from the center of Valparaiso, Chile, a beautiful port city on the Pacific Coast. So if for some reason you get tired of exploring the incredible facilities of the hotel, there is plenty to see nearby.

The WineBox offers 21 rooms with city or ocean views, all of which are made with containers. There are also two terraces, a reception room, and dining areas made from containers as well.

Artistry is an important element of the hotel, with graffiti-painted walls as well as custom interior design elements. And the hotel is apparently an urban winery itself (hence the name), where guests can see and taste wine in the parking garage.

Due to the hilly topography of Valparaiso, the hotel is built on a sloping site. The stacked containers echo this design aesthetic, with private rooms and public spaces spanning across multiple levels. We also like how the container doors were opened at 90 degrees and turned into private balconies for many of the rooms.

There aren’t all that many structures in the world that cohesively use 20+ shipping containers in one building. This is one of the best, as is a great design inspiration for many types of container design.
